Description

Frey and Jakob are two of the most traditional mountain huts of Bariloche, at 1700 meters of height. Therefore, I would like to take you there so you can live this 3-day mountaineering experience by yourself. On the way up, you won't believe the wide variety of landscapes that the Nahuel Huapi National Park has to offer.

The Frey and Jakob trek starts at the parking lot of the Cerro Catedral ski center. During the first hour we will walk through some easy slopes while enjoying the Gutierrez Lake, an amazing blue water lagoon.

Conforming we advance, the trail gets more difficult until we are at the “Piedritas” campsite. And here comes the hardest part of the day since we will start to feel the high altitude, with a big rock climbing goal ahead. However, in less than an hour we will be finally enjoying the comfort and warm of the Frey Hut.

In our second day we will walk in North-West direction in order to climb up to the Schmoll Lagoon, a crystalline lake surrounded by fantastic mountains. After that, we will keep hiking uphill so we can reach the Rucaco Valley. We will cross the "Constructores" and the "Tres Reyes" peaks and once there, we'll enjoy of one of the most beautiful viewpoint of the trip. In front of you, the Jakob Lagoon and the San Martin Hut. Getting there means some technical knowledge because the floor is sandy. Of course, a hot meal surrounded by the perfect landscape through the hut window, will be waiting for you.

The following day, you will have the option of visiting the valley and do a trek up to the Tempanos Lagoon. It is a hidden alpine lake with vertical rocks around. Then, we will continue to Casa de Piedra River Valley to start our return down. Although the descent is steep during the first hour, then it turns into an easier one. Finally, we'll be in Bariloche city again.

Optional: I can extend this program 2 more days. That way we can visit the Laguna Negra Hut descending though the Cerro Lopez. This part of the trip will be more challenging but the landscapes are well worth it!

Another option is to combine the Frey-Jakob trek with a summit attack to Cerro Capilla or any other mountain.

I will be here waiting for your YES to this fantastic experience through the classic huts of the region. Contact me and book your place. The Frey and Jakob trip is a must if you come to Bariloche!

Mountain Leader

AAGM mountain guide from Argentina.

I was raised in Buenos Aires where I used to go sailing and fishing with my family during weekend and holidays. As a teenager I began traveling to Patagonia with friends to fish, hike and camp. Years later I became a rock climber and mountaineer since I wanted to asses more summits and amazing views.

At the age of 23 and after gathering a good amount of fun ascents and traverses along Patagonia, I decided to fully commit to a life in the outdoors. As a result I started my carrier at N.O.L.S. – National Outdoors Leadership School in the U.S.A. and Chile. I lead rock climbing and mountaineering trips in Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Alaska and in Aysen (Chilean Patagonia) for nine years.

In 2009 finally settled permanently in Bariloche and focused my guiding work on the Lake District Region. Here I discovered new styles of guiding and service which were good to experience and helped me grow in this profession. Now I am able to mix my background on outdoor education with the guiding world and create unique experiences for active travelers.

I take advantage of every season of the year, going mountain biking and sea-kayaking in the summer, ice-skating on alpine lakes during the Fall, back-country skiing during the Winter, rock climbing and mountaineering as soon as the Spring makes it way through the snow.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
