Description

The famous 1800 m Eiger North face is the highest wall of the Alps and a mythical mountain challenge for those who are well-prepared and brave!

Historically, the North Face of the Eiger was always regarded as a daunting feat. However, nowadays the Eiger North Face is a perfect climbing option during autumn and springtime. The cold weather and resulting snow and ice enable the rocks to remain stuck to the mountain. And although you will need some technical climbing experience and solid fitness, this guided climb will allow you to enjoy the thrill of climbing Eiger safely.

As your mountain guide, I will carefully review all factors, as well as your technical climbing level before deciding on the right climbing objectives. In order to ensure your safety, you will first need to take the “north faces of the Alps training program” before joining the Eiger climb. This will allow us to get to know each other and for me to assess your climbing level. Furthermore, you will gain the necessary technical skills.  On the preparation training program, we will go through some smaller test climbs and might climb routes such as Aiguille VerteSupercouloir du Tacul, or some gullies on the north face of the Aiguille du Midi, etc. Read more about climbing the north faces of the Alps here

In addition to the excitement that climbing the Eiger North Face generates, I always recommend this 2 to 3 days program because:

  • It is the biggest face of the entire Alps.
  • It is one of the most famous mountaineering routes in history. Many stories have been written about ascents on the North Face of Eiger.
  • The climbing line is logical and very elegant.

So, are you brave enough to tackle the challenging Eiger? Then send me a request and let’s start planning this exciting adventure! I will be glad to lead you up the biggest wall of the Alps.

If you’d like to climb up another gorgeous North face in the Swiss Alps, you can also join me on this 3-day north face expedition to the top of  Matterhorn.

FAQs

What experience and how fit do I need to be to climb the North Face of Eiger?

Climbing the north face of Eiger is extremely challenging and requires a large amount of experience, as well as very good endurance and stamina.

You need to have the skills to climb M5-6 mixt routes. You need to be able to climb for 15-20 hours in a row.

Having experience on the following mountains would be of a great plus:

  • Super couloir of Mt Blanc du Tacul
  • North face of Aiguille Verte
  • The Kuffner ridge
  • Some of the major lines on Ben Nevis
  • Climbs in Alaska

In order to attempt the North Face of Eiger, all climbers must participate in my four-day private training/assessment session with me (more information available at https://www.explore-share.com/trip/north-faces-of-the-alps-training/). This training serves as an assessment of your experience and capabilities, ensuring your readiness for this significant undertaking.

How do I know if I have the right level and experience to climb the north face of Eiger?

Any climber wanting to climb the North Face of Eiger will first join me on a 4-day private training (details here https://www.explore-share.com/trip/north-faces-of-the-alps-training/) which will allow me to assess your experience and your ability to go for this big challenge.

During these 4 days, we will go over situations that we should face during the ascent of Eiger via its north face.

These 4 days will also allow us to get to know each other, which is an important success factor in any challenging mountaineering project.

This 4-day tour should take place between December and May in order to have winter conditions.

Will I need to bring any technical equipment of my own? Is it possible to rent equipment?

I'll provide the common climbing equipment such as the rope and the protection. You'll need to bring your personal climbing gear. In case you can't bring part of it because you'll travel from far away, I'll take care of renting it for you, making sure you get the best quality gear. In any case, you'll need to bring your own mountaineering boots.

How will lodging be managed during the climb?

Lodging will depend on the options we go for, which will depend on you, the weather, and the time of the year during which we'll climb Eiger's north face.

Option 1 - If the weather is optimal and you are extremely strong and experienced, we'll spend the night at the weather station, leave very early, climb the summit, and come back down.

Option 2 - If we can't do it all in one go, we'll set up a bivouac on the face.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

Having optimal conditions to climb Eiger's North Face is challenging. Remaining flexible is key!

If the conditions are not good enough to climb it on the established dates, we'll go for a plan B, either in the area of Eiger, or somewhere else (in the Monte Rosa or Mont Blanc ranges for example).

We'll be closely in touch together the weeks before the climb to discuss the conditions and the plan.

The price will be adapted based on the final tour we'll do.

What is the Client to Guide ratio?

I will take only one climber with me.

What is the best time of the year to climb the North Face of Eiger?

The best time is from March to April. Autumn could also be a possibility, but chances will be very low if the summer is dry.

Where will we meet?

We usually meet in Grindelwald.

Are you offering other north face climbs in the Alps?

Climbing north faces is my expertise. I offer other climbs in the Alps such as the Matterhorn North Face (more info here https://www.explore-share.com/trip/matterhorn-north-face-guide-climbing/), or Les Grandes Jorasses North Face (more info here https://www.explore-share.com/trip/grandes-jorasses-north-face-guided-climb/).

Mountain Guide

My biggest satisfaction is to explore new places, and share it with a rope-mate. And to do it as a professional is the realization of a dream. At the age of 15, I knew I wanted to become a mountain guide, I wanted to live in the mountains, teach and share my new passion. In 2006 I realized my dream and I became a professional mountain guide. I like sharing my knowledge and experience with my clients, taking a journey that transforms slowly the guide-client relationship in climbing partner and often in friendship. I am not and never will be a lone climber but "a company" 'explorer. My specialty lies certainly in climbing on ice and mixed in the high mountains. With my clients I climbed the most difficult faces in the Alps, explored mountain ranges, traveled between America, Asia, Africa, and Europe.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Valeriya

You’re simply the best!!! :))) Explore-Share made everything easy and stress-free. Will definitely use again.

Joshua

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Cami

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
