Description

Cordillera Blanca is one of the most emblematic mountaineering destinations in South America. With more than 30 peaks over 6000 meters high, this Peruvian mountain range is so imposing that it is usually called “the little Himalayas”.

During this 9-day program we will ascend three extraordinary peaks of the Cordillera Blanca: Nevado Mateo, Nevado Urus and Ishincha.

From Lima, the capital of the country, you have to head north to the Andean city of Huaraz (3050 m), in the province of Ancash. You can get there by bus or plane.

From there, we will start our expedition with a first acclimatization trek between 3700 and 4400 meters of altitude. After that, it will be time to start with our scheduled ascents.

Our first climbing goal will be the Nevado Mateo (5125 m). After a day off in Huaraz and checking the equipment, we’ll head towards the Ishinca Valley. We will arrive at the base camp and then continue towards our second peak in the Cordillera Blanca: Nevado Urus (5450 m). Finally it will be the turn to ascend the fabulous Nevado Ishinca (5530 m).

Although these summits imply some glacier hiking skills, the technical level required is not very high. In addition, hiring the services of a certified guide will guarantee you the best supervision and safety throughout the journey.

The only mandatory requirement is to have a good physical condition. However, this expedition also includes mules service to the base camps, allowing you a good acclimatization without the need to carry a lot of weight.

Excluded from the price: Huascaran National Park entrance ticket - Accommodation and meals in Huaraz - Personal technical equipment (boots, crampons, axe, harness, helmet) - Personal camping equipment (sleeping bag, insulation mat, etc.) - Domestic or international flights - Transfers from Lima to Huaraz and back.

Itinerary

Day 1: Meeting in Huaraz

Day 2: Warm up trek

Acclimatization trek to Churup or Conococha Lakes (4 hours of hike)

Day 3: Nevado Mateo (5125 m)

Ascent time to the summit: 7 hours approx. (round trip)

Day 4: Rest day

Day off in Huaraz to rest and check the equipment.

Day 5: Huaraz - Ishinca Base Camp (4500 m)

Duration of the trek: 5 hours approx.

Day 6: Nevado Urus (5450 m)

Round trip: 9 hours approx.

Day 7: Rest day

Day 8: Nevado Ishinca

The ascent will take about 9 hours (descent also included)

Day 9: Return to Huaraz

The way back to Huaraz will take 3 or 4 walking hours. Optional: bus to Lima at night.

Mountain Guide UIAGM, current Director of Training Courses in Argentina UIAGM Guide and Director of Technical Committee of the Argentina Association of Mountain Guides (AAGM).

His curious and adventurous spirit made him develop his potential as a climber from an early age. Over the years he accomplished major sporting achievements, among them opening 5 new routes in Mount Fitz Roy like “Samba do Leao”(1400 mts, 6c) , y “Al Abordaje” (1000 mts, 6c/A2+), and also in different places such as aguja La Silla (Chalten); en Pico Mayor, (Salinas, Brasil); Cerro Trinidad, (Cochamo, Chile); Cara Este del Cerro Vallecitos and Cerro Campanario (Mendoza); Cara sur del Pico Internacional del Mt Tronador (Bariloche).

Since 2003 he has worked as a guide in Patagonia, and also central and northwest Argentina. Has worked in South America in Chile, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia. He did the first Argentinean guided ascension to mount Fitz Roy, and also guided ascensions to San Lorenzo, lnternational pic of Tronador, Aguja Guillomet, Nevado Alpamayo (Perú), Cerro Illimani (Bolivia), amont other.

Luciano has worked in the last years in several courses of Club Andino Bariloche both as an instructor and director (Ice Climbing and Glacier Transit, Backcountry skiing and Rock climbing courses). Also plays the role of "Mountain Concerning" at the Ski & Snowboard School and Mountain School of the Club Andino Bariloche.
