Description

Join this 3-day hiking trip in the Julian Alps and have Slovenia below your feet from the summit of Mount Triglav (2864 m).

This peak is not only the highest in the country but also a national symbol featured in the Slovenian flag. It’s located inside Triglav National Park, in the north-west of the country.

The starting point of this trip will be Aljaz hut in the Vrata Valley. This beautiful alpine valley ends at the foot of Triglav’s famous north wall.

From there, we’ll hike between 5 and 6 hours to Krederica Hut, where we’ll spend the night. Besides, you’ll receive a short training on via ferrata equipment that will be useful the following day.

Finally, we’ll head to the top of Triglav on the third day. But first, we’ll climb 300 m on a via ferrata that will lead us right to the summit.

Once there, you’ll admire impressive views of the Julian Alps and the Adriatic Sea.

Itinerary

Day 1: Meeting At the Vrata Valley

Early in the afternoon, you meet your guide and fellow team mates for the climb at Aljaz hut in the Vrata Valley, which is a base at the foot of Triglav North Face.

Day 2: Walking to Krederica Hut (2562 m)

After breakfast, it’s a pretty walk up below the north face of Triglav. The climb today is moderately difficult, you should make it to Krederica Hut in 5-6 hours. You will get a basic course on via ferrata equipment late afternoon.

Day 3: Climbing Triglav (2864 m), then Descend to Vrata Valley

You will get up at dawn. You need to ascent more than 300 vertical meters to reach the highest Slovenian peak.

You will start ascent with via ferrata set. After about 30 minutes-1 hr, you will reach Small Triglav. Mountain guide will rope you up.

After summiting, you descend to Krederica hut for a rest. It’s quite likely that you’ll be in time to walk back to Aljaz Hut in the Vrata Valley (4 hour walk down).

Mountain Guide

I am a Slovenian IFMGA mountain guide with the ZGVS.
It was when I was 12 years old that I first climbed a mountain myself and by the age of 15 I had started rock climbing.
Since then, my ascents count up to around 1000, starting from Mont Blanc in the seventies and Triglav north face to Cho Oyu, and all over South America including 18 of the 6000m+ peaks including a first ascent on south face of Aconcagua.

I have climbed and travelled all over the world, Shivlinga, K2, Mt Everest, Manaslu, Shishi Panama, El Cap and sport climbing in Kalymnos and Cuba.

Skiing powder in great conditions and rock climbing under the sun are my motto!
