Description

Nevado del Huila is the highest volcano in Colombia. This natural paradise, very close to Cali, is the ideal location for a mountaineering adventure, And, on this 6-day trip, we’ll explore Its most incredible spots.

Also known as the blushing woman, or mujer sonrojada, Nevado del Huila lies in the heart of the Colombian Andes. Its highest point is at an altitude of 5,360 meters. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful peaks in the country.  Furthermore, this massif has some of the biggest water reserves in Colombia. From its summit, we will be able to enjoy the best views of the surrounding region. 

Nevado del Huila is the central point of the Nevado del Huila National Park, divided between the departments of Cauca, Tolima, and Huila. It offers the chance to explore its more than 13 square kilometer glacier. Additionally, on this adventure, we will be able to admire the Andean forest and alpine tundras with unique flora and fauna.

Price details

The price includes:

Guiding + assistant fees

All meals from Tacueyo, indigenous hut, high camp and on return to Tacueyó;

Transport from Cali to Tacueyó and back;

Community permits;

Porter fees;

Group technical and camping equipment.


Itinerary

Day 1: Cali-Tacueyo

We will drive 5 hours from Cali to Tacueyo where we will change vehicles and go in a 4*4 pick-up truck to the indigenous hut.

Day 2: Colombia Camp

We will have breakfast at the indigenous hut and then head 4 km towards Belalcázar. We will turn to cross the Páez River towards the mountain,(3.000 m.a.s.l) before 8am. We will eat on the go and then have dinner at Colombia Camp  (4.500 m.a.s.l).

8-10 hours

Day 3: Rest and acclimatization

We can go hiking or to a nearby glacier. The day is meant for rest and acclimatization.

Day 4: Summit Day

Very early in the morning, we will set off towards the summit, which we should reach between 6 and 8 am. After enjoying the wonderful view, we will return to our campsite.

Day 5: Return

It will take us 5 hours to descend back to the indigenous hut. We have the option of returning in the same day to Tacueyó or Santander de Quilachó and to Cali.

Day 6: Extra day

Extra day for contingencies. If we didn’t return to Cali by day 5, then we will return on day 6.

Mountain Guide

IFMGA Mountain Guide from Colombia

I was born in Suesca, Colombia in 1986 and started rock climbing in 1999. I’ve been working as a rock climbing and mountain guide since 2006 at the Colombian Mountains, part of the Andes range.

I then continued my formation as a guide in Bolivia, and became UIAGM/IFMGA certified in 2013. I worked as a guide in the Andes in Peru, Bolivia and Colombia, and I also participated in international expeditions to Manaslu Mountain in the Himalayas and to Denali in Alaska.

Some Highlights:

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area.
