Description

I invite you to join me on a great 6-day trip in the Andes of Peru, climbing Ishinca (5535m) and Tocllaraju (6035m), two beautiful peaks of the spectacular Cordillera Blanca.

This 6-day ascent in the Ishinca Valley allows you to gradually acclimatize to the high altitude. Ishinca is a great acclimatization climb if you don’t have much experience, and also to acclimatize and prepare yourself to reach the summit of Tocllaraju, a more challenging ascent and our main goal.

On the way up to Ishinca here is an easy glacier with a steep section of 100m just before the summit. We can also enjoy impressive views of Ranrapalca and Huantsan mountains.

The city of Huaraz (3100m) will be the starting point of our trip. From there, we’ll head to the Ishinca Valley, and spend the night at the Ishinca Base Camp (4350m). On the following day, we’ll climb to the Ishinca summit (5530m). The third day will be a rest day, or a reserve day in case of bad weather.

On the fourth day, we will head to the Moraine Camp (5100m). Finally, we will ascend to the spectacular Tocllaraju summit (6035m) on the fifth day. We will enjoy breathtaking views from the top. We will descend to Base Camp and get back to Huaraz on the sixth day.

A private transfer will take us to the trailhead starting point, from Huaraz. Mules and donkey drivers will help us carry the tents and food to the base camp, and a cook will prepare our meals along the trip.

Bear in mind you need an excellent fitness level in order to join this ascent, although we will spend some days to get a good acclimatization to high altitude.

Just send me a request if you want to join me on this unique ascent in the Cordillera Blanca in Peru.  Book your trip and get ready for an unforgettable mountaineering adventure! If you are looking for a faster ascent, I also guide a 4-day Tocllaraju ascent.

Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz (3100m) - Bus to Pashpa (3500m) - Ishinca Base Camp (4350m), Ishinca Valley)

Transfer by bus to the village of Pashpa (3500m). Start of the trek by a path along the edge of the mountain from which you can see the Copa and theHuascaran mountains in the north. The Quebrada Ishinca begins with a wood of Quenoals (a typical tree of the Cordillera). The path is deep and progressive and helps you to discover the superb landscapes around the Ishinca. We then cross a plain and reach the Ishinca base camp which is just below a mountainous cirque.

Day 2: Ishinca Base Camp (4350m) -Ishinca summit ascent (5530m) - Ishinca BC

We leave the refuge and cross the river, joining the path which zigzags up to
the plateau. The slope is more gentle up to the end of the Ishinca lagoon. We
continue up the north glacier to a small pass with little crevasses. About a hundred
metres before the summit the slope is steep, at 45°. We enjoy a pleasant view from the summit. Return to Base Camp.

Day 3: Ishinca Base Camp - Rest day or reserve day in case of bad weather

Day 4: Ishinca Base Camp (4350m) - Climb to Morrena Camp (5100m)

The climb up to Camp 1 (Morrena Camp) begins at the bottom of the valley on the left by astraight and stony path which leads up to the spur of ice. We continue on the edge of the glacier and reach Morrena Camp which is next to granite rocks. We get a beautiful view of the sunset and of Copa mountain.

Day 5: Morrena Camp (5100m) - Tocllaraju summit (6035m) - Back to Base Camp (4350m)

We cross a large glacier with crevasses, then take the north-west crest which
leads to the bottom of a pyramid where we discover the rimaye and the 60m-section which is very steep and technical, with a slope of 55° . Then we reach the easy
summital crest which leads to the summit. Abseil down, return to Morrena Camp and
descent to Ishinca camp.

Day 6: Ishinca Base Camp (4350m) - Pashpa - Bus to Huaraz - End of trip

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
