Description

An outstanding amount of 18 meters of snow per year, makes Hokkaido one of the best ski destinations in the world. Why don't you come here for an incredible adventure?

I invite you to a 10-day traverse with 9 days of skiing to the top ski areas in the island of Hokkaido. Starting from Niseko, one of the most renowned ski resorts in the country, we'll drive north till we reach Furano.

Along the way, we'll enjoy some great backcountry ski touring, find endless hiking possibilities and untouched powder!

If you wish to explore Hokkaido and you don't mind spending time on the road, this trip is your best option! Besides having some ski experience, you should be fit, as the hiking will demand extra effort.

A few highlights on the itinerary

The trip consists in 9 days of skiing (including short hikes). There'll also be 2 to 3 days of backcountry ski-touring (this is optional).

We'll spend 4 days in Niseko area, exploring resorts and volcanos. Then, we'll move to Furano, in the mountains of Central Hokkaido.

Our itinerary includes tree skiing in Rusutso, an avalanche rescue practice in Niseko and a video filming session in the less-known location of Kiroro. In fact, we'll analyze these videos later and I'll give you hints to improve your technique.

Another interesting experience on this trip will be skiing during night in Niseko.

But definitely one of the highlights will be hiking up Mount Yotei (a 1898 m volcano) and ski the deep powder inside its crater! Then, we'll enjoy an amazing descent from the summit.

We will also spend a day in Kuro-Dake and enjoy the longest top to bottom ride in Hokkaido.

However, there'll be much more beyond hiking and backcountry ski touring. At night we'll relax at typical Japanese hot springs (called Onsen), eat delicious local food and have fun!

In Sapporo, for example, we'll find lots of snow and also a unique night life and great food.

If you want to find out more, you can check the itinerary below this description. Nevertheless, you should be aware that this will be a flexible trip, adjusted to the weather and snow conditions.

We'll use a van to move around Hokkaido. You can join an existing group or come with at least 6 of your friends for a private guiding trip.

Finally, in case you plan to stay longer in Japan, I can give you some advice and help you with your flights arrangements.

Please, contact me if you'd like to join me for an amazing road trip and backcountry ski touring in Hokkaido. I'll do my best to provide you a complete, safe and totally unforgettable experience!

If you prefer more freeriding and less backcountry ski touring, you should consider this 12-day ski trip based in Niseko area.

Mountain Guide

I'm a UIAGM certified guide, skitouring-freeride and heliski guide. I'm a lifelong skier, climber and mountaineer, born in Prachovske skaly, a famous sandstone climbing area in the Czech Republic.
I've personally participated in 13 expeditions to 8thousander peaks and stood 5 times on an 8000m peak. I have guided guests on all continents (7 summits, etc..) in numerous treks, climbing or skitouring expeditions.
I run a guiding company in Prague and work for Patagonia, SKI TRAB and ABS avalanche backpacks. I spend my winter guiding in the Northern hemisphere, including heliski in Lappland (SWE), ski touring in Morocco or enjoying the best powder snow on earth in Japan.
The rest of the time I'm on expeditions in Nepal or South America and I spend most of the summer climbing in my hometown or guiding in the Alps.
I like Czech beer and food, passionate guests and jokes. If I'm not available my team will guide you instead.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
