Description

Join me on this unique 13-day expedition to amazing Antarctica! Skiing the spectacular terrain of Anctarctica is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you cannot miss.

The trip includes ski mountaineering, with ski objectives for all levels. It will be a fascinating mix of international and local explorers, adventurers and humanitarians.

The Sea Adventurer boat will be our base during the trip. You will choose the ski mountaineering objectives, that usually take 2-3 hours, and then return for lunch. If you are part of an ambitious team, you may also stay out all day. Anway, you can always choose not to ski and trek or take part in other activities instead.

On the first day of the trip, you will meet your team in Ushuaia. All ski teams are guided. Weather permitting, in Ushuaia we will head up to the local glacier to check everyone’s gear and safety equipment. Also, we will check the appropriate skill level group.

Once we reach the peninsula, there will be ski options for all levels of ability: for those with little or no backcountry experience to more challenging objectives that will require crevasse rescue gear and experience.

Before the expedition, you will need to fill out a detailed questionnaire of both mountaineering and ski experience.

There will be many other guided groups and teams on board but you will not be able to visually see the other teams in the area.

The boat has 10 zodiacs with drivers. Most important, all guides will have radios and will be able to communicate with the ship for pick-ups. Teams may choose to stay out all day or to return to the boat for sit-down meals. In Antarctica there is about 19 hours of daylight, so there is plenty of time to go out.

Most ski objectives can be accessed almost directly from the zodiac landing, without crampons or glacier travel. The peaks we will climg and ski range from 500 ft to 3000 ft, rising straight out of the water. However, some peaks do require significant crevasse travel.

The weather and snow conditions vary from year to year, with everything from very hard packed snow to fresh powder. It is a maritime climate so you see a lot of variability.

Also, if you choose not to ski for a day, you will have the option of visiting penguin rookeries, science stations, of enjoy whale watching. We will have an onboard marine biologist, naturalis, ornithologist and historian to answer all your questions and teach you about the landscape and history and of this amazing place. Every night, there will be entertainment, slide shows and lectures.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
