Cordillera Huayhuash is a stunning mountain range in the Peruvian Andes that offers some of the most exciting high altitude hiking in the world. Located 110km south of Huaraz and 50km south east of the better known Cordillera Blanca, the Cordillera Huayhuash is a 30km in length with breathtaking wild scenery.
Huayhuash mountain range boasts the second highest peak in Peru, Yerupaja (6634m) and has 7 summits exceeding 6ooom. The famous book and film Touching The Void was set in Cordillera Huayhuash’s second highest peak, Siula Grande.
I know these mountains well and take great pleasure in guiding hikers through its amazing landscapes. The location’s popularity is growing due to the high average hiking altitude of 4300m along with beautiful glacial lakes and hot springs. The region is sparsely populated and offers a real exploration of wild mountain terrain.
Due to the altitude, trekkers are required to be of intermediate fitness. There will be a day of acclimitising but hiking in these conditions requires stamina. A 50 minute flight from Lima will bring you to Huaraz and then we will transfer everyone to Llamac (3250m), a town that serves as our gateway into the Huayhuash mountain range.
Sign up now and I’ll be ready and waiting to take you around this breathtaking part of the world and steer you on this great adventure.
If this trip excites you, then consider another 7 day trek in the well known Cordillera Blanca with its famous valleys. Or if you would prefer something more extended join me on a 13 day trek from Santa Cruz to Ulta through some of Peru’s most beautiful and dramatic scenery.
Your first day will involve your transfer from Lima to Huaraz
This day will be spent in Huaraz acclimitising to the altitude. Huaraz is situated at just over 3000m
On the third day we will travel from Huaraz to Llamac which functions as our gate into Cordillera Huayhuash. Llamac is elevated at 3300m and about a 5 hour bus ride from Huaraz.
From Llamac our trek begins with the ascent to Rondoy located at 4250m
The fifth day will see us trek from Rondoy to Zambunya pass at 4750m and then onto Jahuacocha lake at 4070m
The final day of trekking will see us hike from Jahuacocha to Pampa Llamac pass at 4300m and then back to Llamac itself. We will also take our return transport to Huaraz later this day.
Your final day will involve your transfer back to Lima city.

IFMGA/UIAGM Mountain Guide from Perú
I started working on the mountains when I was still a college student, working in climbing and trekking tours.
This early passion quickly developed into a profession, for climbing and trekking in the Andes. I learned with experienced German, Canadian and Swiss guides, among others.
I like to share my experience and expertise acquired in expeditions around the world, and show visitors the beauty of the Peruvian Andes in the Cordillera Blanca, and all along my country.
I am a certified IFMGA-UIAGM mountain guide and member of the Association of Mountain Guides of Peru (AGMP).
I speak Spanish, English and Quechua.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
