Description

The Jumolhari Trek is one of the most popular treks in Bhutan which will take you through a picture-perfect valley, across high ridges and pristine lakes. Experience the unspoiled beauty of Bhutan, walking on beautiful trails adorned with colorful prayer flags and witness stunning vistas of snow-capped mountains on this 7- day trek.

We’ll begin this trip in the charming Paro valley. You’ll spend a day visiting ancient monasteries, museums and beautiful temples in the beautiful town of Paro.

The trail from Paro valley to Thangthangkah winds through a lush forest alongside a river. Crossing several traditional wooden bridges, we’ll reach Thangthangkah (3,610 m). Here, you’ll encounter Mount Jhumhori for the first time, and believe us, it is spectacular!

The next trek leads to Paro Chhu. As we hike deeper onto alpine meadows and yak pastures, you’ll discover the rich biodiversity of the region. Passing by the mountain villages of Soe, Takethang, and Dangochang,  we’ll reach Jangothang (4,080 m), the base camp of Mount Jumolhari. This spot offers outstanding vistas of the imposing Jhumhori!

Walking past the serene Tshophu lake, we’ll ascend a steep trail and cross the daunting Bhonte La pass (4,890 m), the highest point of the trek. From here, we’ll descend on a scenic path adorned with colorful prayer flags to the reach the Soi Yaksay Valley. The valley offers pleasing sights of pristine waterfalls, and snow-covered peaks.

Descending a picturesque route via Takhung La pass (4,520 m) we’ll reach Gunitsawa and finally drive to  Thimphu, marking the end of an unbelievable journey!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Paro Valley

Transfer from Paro International Airport to your hotel. Visit ancient Buddhist monasteries, museums and beautiful temples, like Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the city.

Day 2: From Paro to Thangthangkah

Ascend a narrow trail through lush forests along the river. We’ll cross many traditional wooden bridges to reach Thangthangkah. You’ll witness Mount Jhumhori for the first time from this beautiful meadow.

Day 3: From Thangthangka to Jangothang (Base Camp of Mt.Jumolhari)

Trek towards Paro Chhu, into the alpine meadows. You’ll spot some yaks and beautiful homes of yak herders on the way. Passing by the villages of Soe, Takethang, and Dangochang we’ll reach Jangothang, the base camp of Mount Jumolhari. Witness exceptional vistas of the mountain from here.

Day 4: From Jangothang to Soi Yaksay Valley (via Bonte La)

Passing by the beautiful lake of Tshophu, we’ll ascend a steep trail to reach Bhonte La pass(4,890 m), the highest point of the trek.The route is adorned with colorful prayer flags. Head towards the Soi Yaksay Valley. The valley offers amazing views of pristine waterfalls and snow-covered peaks.

Day 5: From Soi Yaksa to Thombu

Cross the Takhung La pass (4,520 m) and descend to Thombu Shong.

Day 6: From Thombu to Paro

Cross the Thombu La pass (4,380 m) and reach Gunitsawa. Next, we’ll drive you to Thimphu. Have a hot shower and relax.

Day 7: Departure day!

Transfer from your hotel to the airport.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy.
