Description

Piz Bernina (4049 m) divides two glacial valleys, the Tschierva Glacier and the Morteratsch Glacier. The highest peak of the Bernina Massif is surrounded by breathtaking lakes, valleys and glaciers.

That will also be the scenery of this 7-day guided hike full of cultural areas to visit such as the Engadine (a high valley of the Romansh speaking Switzerland), Valmalenco (a side valley of the Vetlin, Italy) and Val Poschiavo (an isolated valley divided form the rest of the Italian Switzerland).

On our way, we will discover wonderful areas such as the idyllic Val Roseg, and amazing views of glaciers. We will be able to marvel at the sight of the Cavloc Lake and the Muretto Valley.

We will have the privilege to go through a historic mule track and walk on steep ramps, back and forth Italy and Switzerland. We will not believe the beauty of Val Poschiavo with its superb nature. On the very last day, we will take the ridge pass to Munt Pers, at 3207 m, and get to enjoy its 360º panorama on the summit.

Also, you do not need high endurance or any technical skill to join. However, you should be able to take steady footsteps even in difficult terrains, and be fit enough to go through 7-days of walking at a fairly high altitude.

The price does not include 1 dinner, all drinks or snacks. Though it does not include all transport during the trip, it does include the taxi from Campo Franscia to Lago di Gera, the train from Cavaglia to Alp Grüm, and the cable car to Diavolezza.

Itinerary

Day 1: Pontresina - Val Roseg

Before hiking through the idyllic Val Roseg we will get to know the Engadin village, in Pontresina, with its typical houses and panoramas. We will spend the night at the Hotel Roseggletscher.

Day 2: Val Roseg - Maloja

We will climb from Hotel Roseggletscher to Fuorcla Surlej. We will get to Maloja.

Day 3: Maloja - Passo del Muretto - Rifugio Longoni CAI

We will reach the Cavloc Lake. Then, we will take the Muretto valley to the pass (2562 m). We will descend towards Alpe Oro, on a historic mule track. Then we will head back up to Alpe Fora and on to Longoni hut CAI (Club Alpino Italiano).

Day 4: Rifugio Longoni – Campo Franscia

We will take the «Alta Via della Valmalenco». Then, we will continue to Bocchel de Torno and via Dosso dei Vetti to Campo Franscia.

Day 5: Lago di Gera - Pass da Canfinal - Cavaglia

We will drive to Lago di Gera and will reach the top of the wall via a dizzying concrete ramp (not dangerous). On the riverside path we will arrive to the Alpe Gembré. The ascent to the Pass da Canfinal (2628 m) will bring us back to Switzerland. It will be a high trail that goes high over the Val Poschiavo to Cavaglia.

Day 6: Cavaglia – Diavolezza

We will visit the glacier mills in the glacier garden. Then, we will take the train to Alp Grüm. We will walk to Sassal Mason and further into the wide valley of the Bernina Pass. From there, we will get to the valley station of the cable car Diavolezza.

Day 7: Diavolezza – Munt Pers – Morteratsch/Pontresina

We will take the ridge path to Munt Pers, 3207 m. The magnificent 360 ° panorama on the summit is the highlight of our Bernina walk. We will return to Diavolezza and tackle the last stage through Val Bernina to Morteratsch.

The hardest stage of the tour requires 8.30 hs of walking and 1330 m ascent.

In our way to the Murettopass there could still be snow, which we will avoid whenever possible.

... over all hills! Away from the hustle and bustle, I accompany you through the impressive nature of the mountains. In good company, you can relax on multi-day trekking, on a hike or in winter on snowshoes.

I was born in the Engadine in 1958 and grew up in Pontresina, only 8 km from the world-famous St. Moritz.

As a teenager I experienced a 5-year study visit in central Italy. This made Italy very dear to me and I then lived many years in Italy - in Chiavenna, not far from Lake Como. So I do not only know the Engadin / St. Moritz but also the Bernina south side, the Comersee region and the Splügenpass area like my trouser pocket.

I have been pursuing my hobbies "for a lifetime" - hiking, mountaineering, ski touring, delta flying, kayaking and traveling - since June 2015 I am a certified hiking guide SBV.

My current place of residence is Schlarigna, as Celerina / St. Moritz calls itself Romansh. Romansh is also my mother tongue - but of course I also speak German and Italian, in French and English I can communicate.

I would be happy to accompany you through my homeland, the Engadine, the Bernina south side, the Veltlin and the region of Lake Como. Together we experience beautiful days.
