Description

Cerro Bonete (5,004 meters) is located in the Andes mountain range in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. It’s inside the protected area of the Aconcagua Provincial Park and it is the best natural lookout to the West Face of the highest point in the American Continent.

If you join me on this 7-day trek, you will explore the Horcones Valley and admire the South Face of the Aconcagua. Also, you will visit the Confluencia and the Plaza de Mulas camps, two key spots for the ascent to this great mountain.

We’ll start our week in the City of Mendoza. I can pick you up at the airport if you need. Remember that during the trip you will only need to carry a daypack. We will transfer the rest of the equipment in mules.

Optional services: Hotel in Mendoza, pick up at the airport or bus station, helicopter charter (extra cost for up to two persons: USD 1,300). Not included in the price: Trekking pass to the Park, lodging in Mendoza, drinks in Mendoza and Penitentes, extra expenses, personal equipment.

Itinerary

Day 1: Mendoza - Los Penitentes

Pick up at the airport. We’ll drive for 3 hours to Los Penitentes (2,580 meters). We’ll spend the night at the lodge.

Day 2: Confluencia

After breakfast, we will visit the Horcones Valley (2,950 meters) and start the approach to Confluencia (3,390 meters), our first camp. This will take us three hours.

Day 3: Aconcagua's South Face

We’ll take a 7-hour hike to admire the South Face of the Aconcagua and return to the Confluencia camp.

Day 4: Plaza de Mulas

We’ll reach the Plaza de Mulas camp (4,350 meters) after a challenging hike (7 o 9 hours).

Day 5: Plaza de Mulas

Day off in Plaza de Mulas.

Day 6: Cerro Bonete

We’ll climb the Cerro Bonete (5,004 meters) and admire from up there the West Face of the Aconcagua.

Day 7: Last day

Descent to Horcones Valley. We’ll drive to Mendoza City, where this program ends.

Optional: If you want, you can arrange a helicopter flight to return to Horcones!
