Description

Would you like to participate in a unique outdoor adventure in the Stubai Alps? Then join me for this amazing 4-day hut-to-hut hiking and photography tour in the Stubai Alps, on the border between Italy and Austria, starting from the Italian town of Vipiteno.

On this 4-day adventure, you will get to enjoy a thrilling hike in the breathtaking Stubai Alps. Additionally, you will receive a special photography course in which we will cover landscape, sunset and sunrise photography.  It is a practical course that aims at perfecting your picture-taking skills with a hands-on approach. You will be able to put everything to practice in an idyllic setting. Below, you can read a detailed day-by-day description of the program.

Although no previous photography skills are necessary to join this trip, some prior hiking experience is. Additionally, you will need to be in good physical shape to tackle the long walks in the mountains. Of course, I will be there to help and guide you on the way.

Itinerary

Day 1: Meeting at Vipiteno, Maiern district

Ascent to the Vedretta Pendente Refuge (2586 m) – 3.5 hours of walking, 1000 m of elevation gain.
We will photograph along the ascent route and at sunset from the refuge. Overnight at the refuge.

Day 2: Hike to Blassi al Bicchere

Magnificent hiking ascent, with short rocky passages to the Blasi al Bicchiere shelter the highest point in South Tyrol (3195 m). The refuge is located on a magnificent superpanoramic rocky outcrop. 2.5 hours of ascent and 700 m of altitude difference.

From the hut optional ascent to Cima Libera 3418 m, a fantastic peak among the highest in Stubai.

Overnight at the Blasi al Bicchiere shelter, sunset and night photography session after dinner.

Day 3: Vedretta Pendente Refuge

Wake up early to photograph the sunrise (optional)
Rifugio Blasi al Bicchiere, descent to the Vedretta Pendente refuge.

From there, we have to option to continue on without backpacks to the Montarso fork at 3110 m, between two huge glaciers and great views of the Stubai Dolomites – 5 hours of walking, 550 m of elevation gain uphill.

Return to the Vedretta Pendente refuge.
Possible second session at sunset, or evening of analysis and discussion on landscape photography, analysis of the shots taken.

Day 4: Return

Photography of glacial valleys from high altitude.
Beautiful and solitary crossing to the valley of the beautiful Egeten lakes and descent to Maiern – 5 hours walk, 700 m climb.

Return at 16:00

 

Equipment you will need to bring

Course suitable for all SLR owners, mirrorless. Minimum photographic capacity required, tripod. Recommended objectives: wide-angle and normal, telephoto. Mountain clothing, hiking boots.

I was born in 1967, I'm an agronomist and guide of medium mountain of the Lombardy College of mountain guides. I have collaborated with ERSAF on some projects related to the mountain environment, and with the main Italian outdoor magazines as editor.

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me!
