Description

I invite you to join me on this 3-day trip and climb to the summit of Pisco (5752m), an emblematic mountain in the Cordillera Blanca, in the Peruvian Andes, located about 60 kilometers north of the city of Huaraz.

Pisco belongs to the Huandoy massif. It is considered as the balcony of the Cordillera Blanca, as from its summit we can enjoy a spectacular 360º panoramic view. Also, Pisco is a relatively easy mountain to climb compared to its more challenging neighbors and it is suitable for beginners.

The mountain,  a very good option for acclimatization before climbing a 6000-meter peak, was named after the national Peruvian drink “Pisco”, because the first climbers to reach the summit toasted with this drink.

We will meet in Huaraz at your hotel and from there we will drive to Cebollapampa (3900m), where our arriero awaits us with his donkeys to start our way up to the Base Camp (4600m). The trek will take us about 3 hours.

The second day will be a long day. he total time for ascent and descent from the summit is about 13 hours. Very early, we start trekking towards the glacier along a rocky path for about 3 hours and with our mountain equipment on we begin the ascent to the summit, for about 4 more hours.

From the summit of Pisco, you will get breathtaking views! Then we will descend back to Base Camp. On the third day, we will descend to Cebollapampa and transfer back to Huaraz where our trip ends.

If you want to join me on this 3-day program to the summit of Pisco, just book your place! Come experience a great climb in the Cordillera Blanca and prepare yourself for more challenging ascents.

I offer many other mountaineering trips and ascents in Peru. Check them out!

Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz - Cebollapampa (3900m) - Base Camp (4600m)

After breakfast at your hotel, we drive from Huaraz to Cebollapampa. The drive takes 3 hours approximately. During the ride we pass through many Andean villages which have different customs and traditions. Once there the arriero with the donkeys awaits us so we can start our way up to the Base Camp. The hike takes about 3 hours. At Base Camp we will practice some mountaineering skills.

Day 2: Pisco Summit (5752m) - Base Camp

This is a long day. We will leave very early and start walking towards the glacier along a rocky path for 3 hours approximately. Here we will put on the necessary mountain equipment for the ascent to the summit (about 4 more hours). Pisco is well known for its incredible views and strategic points of view for great pictures. The proximity of the neighboring peaks of Huandoy, Chacraraju, Chopicalqui and Huascaran is impressive. The total time to ascend and descend is approximately 13 hours.

Mountain Guide

I was born at the foot of Huascaran, Peru’s highest peak. I spent my childhood preparing for a career as a mountain guide. I began working as a porter on big expeditions all around the Cordillera Blanca range to earn both money and the necessary experience to begin my accreditation process towards a prestigious UIAGM Certification.

As my training for this, I spent most of my years from my early 20’s in the mountains as an aspirant guide, apprenticing under others and developing my own strength, style, and techniques as a guide.

Having earned the title of UIAGM mountain guide, I have worked on just about every peak in the National Park with groups from around the globe and continues to do so with patience and professionalism in all aspects of the job.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
