Description

Explore the breathtaking Dolomites, the ultimate destination for thrilling via ferrata climbing adventures!

This range in northern Italy is actually the birthplace of the via ferrata, being created during the dark days of the First World Day for soldiers to be able to quickly traverse the mountainside.

During our 3-day tour we’ll cover some of these protected climbing routes, enjoying views such as the Majestic Marmolada.

Marmolada is the highest mountain in the Dolomites, reaching 3,343 meters, and has several summits. It is also home to the Marmolada Glacier, the only glacier in the Dolomites.

There are many different options for the itinerary. We will define it based on where you'll be staying, and the time of the year in which you come (this will determine which huts are open, and whic are closed). In any case, we will always do 3 days of hiking+via ferrata, staying for 2 nights in huts.

One of the possible optoins includes climbing different via ferratas each day of intermediate level, as well as visiting the Marmolada Glacier. After long days of exhilarating climbing we’ll come to rest at some beautiful mountain huts. These include the Padon Refuge, which is situated opposite the Marmolada Glacier, offering spectacular views. And the Pian dei Fiacconi refuge is the gateway to the glacier, and is the site of stunning views of the Sella Group, the plateau-shaped massif, and the Fedaia Lake.

FAQs

What is included in the price (accommodation, equipment, etc.) and what would we need to supply?

The price includes the guide fee and via ferrata gear (harness, helmet and via ferrata lanyard with carabiners). The accommodation, food, drinks, lifts, or taxi are to be paid separately.

Regarding accommodation, how do we book the mountain hut?

Don't worry about the hut! I'll take care of the reservation, and you'll be able to pay for it on site.

Where would we meet to start the Via Ferrata tour?

The trip could start at the Passo Carezza chairlift in Paolina, 8:30 am. The place is 30 min far from bolzano.

In case we decide on a different itinerary, we will let you know the exact meeting point.

Are there any other costs we should know about?

Yes, there are other extra costs, such as:

  • The price of the half board, which is about 65/70 euro per person per day with dinner.
  • Transport
  • Food.

The price listed on this trip only includes the guiding fee and via ferrata equipment.

What itinerary will we do during the 3 days of the tour?

We will define the itinerary based on where you'll be staying, and the time of the year in which you come (this will determine which huts are open, and whic are closed). The itinerary proposed on the description of the trip is one of the options. In any case, we will always do 3 days of hiking+via ferrata, staying for 2 nights in huts.

Do I need previous experience in via ferrata or rock climbing to join this tour?

No, previous experience in via ferrata or rock climbing is not mandatory. It's important to have a good fitness level, because we will be hiking and doing a via ferrata every day for 3 days. But we can adjust the itinerary and difficulty level to the group's experience, fitness level, and desires for the trip.

Can I join a group?

No, this trip is only offered for private groups or individuals.

How many people can go with 1 guide?

This will depend on the difficulty level of the via ferratas we choose to do. If we go on easy via ferratas, 1 guide can take up to 4/5 people. If we go to more challenging via ferratas, 1 guide can take only 2/3 clients.

What kind of shoe/boot is recommended for via ferrata?

Hiking or approach shoes or boots with semi-rigid or fairly stiff sole are the ideal footwear for via ferrata, as you have to be comfortable climbing on metal ladder rungs and walking on rocks. Sneakers are not recommended, as they can be quite slippery.

Can I join a group tour to do a via ferrata?

Yes, I offer weekly group departures for the Alpini via ferrata near Cortina. You can check all the information here: https://www.explore-share.com/trip/1-day-via-ferrata-dolomites-cortina/

Mountain Guide

I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.

Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.

My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).

Feel free to get in touch with me if you are coming in the Dolomites for skiing (alpine, freeride and ski touring), rock climbing, sport climbing and multi pitch climbing. It will be my pleasure to guide you here and let you discover my secret spots.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Valeriya

You’re simply the best!!! :))) Explore-Share made everything easy and stress-free. Will definitely use again.

Joshua

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Cami

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
