Description

The Eiger mountain in the Bernese Alps is one of three stunning beauties that also include the Mönch and the Jungfrau. Ascending to the summit of the Eiger via the Mittellegi Ridge is a challenge on many a mountaineer’s wish list. Not an easy task of course, but well worth it, and better done with a seasoned guide. On this 3-day ascent, I show you the way to the Eiger’s peak via the famous Mittellegi Ridge.

Our trip begins from Grindelwald, a lovely Swiss village. From there we will begin our exciting three day ascent! On our way, we will encounter very exposed and narrow portions of the ridge. Also, some snow and ice along the way that will make this excursion a mountaineering challenge. We will also see some very beautiful landscapes and of course, after tackling this mountain’s challenging terrain you will feel a well deserved sense of accomplishment!

Because this is not an easy ascent, it is important that you are well prepared. Prior experience and a good fitness level are necessary! I will at all times be there to help and guide you, and to ensure your safety and enjoyment. Although definitely strenuous at times, this will be a very rewarding experience!

Are you ready to tackle the famous Mittellegi Ridge on your way up to the Eiger? Then book your place and join me on this 3-day trip to this famous mountaineering landmark!

Mountain Guide

I was born in Kranj (Slovenia), and since I was a child the mountains have been my passion. I graduated in Sports at Ljubljana University and started an alpine career as a member of the Kranj Alpine Club.

In 1977, I climbed my first eight-thousander: it was a new route on Gasherbrum I. Some years later, a partner and I became the first Slovenians to ascend Mt Everest, also on a new route.

In fact, I’ve been at the top of Everest twice. The second time, I reached the summit with my wife Marija, and we were the first married couple achieving that.

Throughout my alpine career, I took part and even lead more than 20 expeditions in the Nepalese Himalayas. There, I climbed more than six peaks over eight thousand meters: two of them on new routes and three using pure alpine style. I also climbed in Patagonia, Pamir, USA, Caucasus and Scotland.

However, my major success was climbing a new route on Kangchenjunga, in alpine style and together with climber Marko Prezelj. After this, we won the prestigious mountaineering award Piolet d’Or.

I am a mountain guide since 1982 and I obtained my IFMGA license in 1997. I am also an instructor at the Slovenian Mountain Guide Association (SMGA).

I still live in Kranj with my wife and the youngest of our three children.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
