Description

Famous for its off-piste and extreme skiing possibilities, La Meije is the ideal peak for a ski touring adventure. Join me on this 2-day program and discover the stunning slopes of this mountain in the South of France, near La Bérarde.

We will set off on our adventure from La Bérarde. From there, we will spend around 2 to 3 hours on our way to the refuge. Once we arrive, we will enjoy a replenishing picnic before spending the afternoon learning about snow and safety conditions. On the next day, we will set off a dawn towards the Breche de La Meije at an altitude of (3357 m). We will enjoy a nice coffee break before returning to the refuge and back to La Bérarde after lunch.

This exciting ski touring program is for skiers with prior experience. Additionally, you will need a good fitness level. Of course, I will be there to help and guide you every step of the way.

Itinerary

Day 1: Day 1

Climb to the Châtelleret refuge by the valley of Etançons (around 2h30). 
Picnic at the refuge. 
Ascent: 500 m. 
During the afternoon we will enjoy an awareness session on snow science, ARVA, and course preparation. 

Night and dinner at the  Châtelleret refuge in charge of Gérard TURC (High Mountain Guide) and Brigitte MOREAU.

Day 2: Day 2

Sunrise and breakfast around 5am.

 
Climb to the Breche de la Meije (3357 m), final walk. 

Elevation gain: 900 m. 

Negative height difference: 1500 m. 

Coffee break at the mythical Promontoire refuge(3082 m). 

Descent to the Châtelleret refuge (2232 m), picnic and packing.

Return to La Bérarde around 2pm.

Light crampons, shoulder belt, 40 liter bag, ski touring equipment, warm clothing.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area.
