Description

Escape the crowds during this 2 day ski tour along Norway’s iconic Nærøyfjord! You will experience the beauty of the fjord while enjoying the majesty of the surrounding mountains!

At 17 km in length, the Nærøyfjord, an arm of the larger Sognefjord, was traditionally an important means of transportation for the nearby farmers and villages of Western Norway. Today, tourists flock to this scenic spot to marvel at one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world as they cruise along its calm waters. The fjord is so stunning that it was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005.

During this unique 2 day adventure, you will have the opportunity to experience the magnificent fjord from a totally new perspective as we ski the mountains that rise dramatically above the waterway. Not only will you have an incredible panorama of one of the most beautiful sites in the world, we will enjoy 2 days of pristine snow and solitude in an area rarely visited by skiers. There are many fantastic lines for skiing, including some great downhill runs of up to 1000m. I will guide you to the best runs depending on conditions and the group’s abilities, but you can expect to cover 10 – 15km on the first day and 10 – 2okm on the second day.

We will spend the night at a recently renovated cabin in Hjølmostølen (500 m elevation), where will relax by the cabin’s wood burning stove as we eat a delicious dinner. Then, we will sleep peacefully in our clean sheets before waking up to a breakfast of fries and oatmeal grøt. Let me know if you have any food allergies so that we can plan accordingly!

This is an intermediate level program: skiers should be comfortable on variable terrain and have some previous ski touring experience. You should also have sufficient physical fitness to be able to ski for two days. You will need to bring your own skis and other personal equipment, such as a backpack, warm layers, and of course, an extra pair of wool socks. Breakfast and dinner on the mountain will be provided, but you should bring your own lunch for both days.

Mountain Guide

I'm a full-time IFMGA mountain guide and I run my company Tindeguide.no from my base at Voss. Here, in the hearth of Fjord Norway, Me and my team of certified guides, have specialized on guided ski touring, climbing and sea kayaking.

I'm also a geologist, and I hold a PhD on natural geological hazards. Before entering the guide business full time, I gained valuable HSE experience working as geological consultant and as snow avalanche forecaster for the railways in Norway.

Once a week I work as snow avalanche observer for the national avalanche bulletin (varsom.no) - I'm always updated on the current snow conditions in my region. On my guided ski trips you will gain knowledge on snow and avalanches, if you're interested.
