Discover the natural wonders of southern Chile as I guide you on a 12-day skiing tour on stunning volcanoes.
Combined with the colourful culture of Chile, this adventure brings you the best of what South America can offer.
Well-known for its incredible natural beauty, white volcanic cones dominate the southern region, while green lush forests sit at their foot resting next to blue lakes.
Our journey begins with a road trip that combines the most alluring volcanoes starting in Temuco, a city in the Araucanía region. After driving to Curacautín we tour the volcanic neighbours of Lonquimay, Sierra Nevada and the incredible Llaima, one of the largest and most active volcanoes in Chile.
Afterwards, we descend southwards and climb Puyehue before skiing into its crater. Finally, we visit the beautiful village of Pucon, home to the menacingly active Villarrica, as well as the beautifully huge Lanin that straddles the border with Argentina.
Due to the level of difficultly involved, participants are required to have good physical condition and some experience with back country skiing. Also, those seeking to come along should have good stamina, able to climb for 5 hours, with a total touring time of 7 hours on the day. And you should be able to master descents off piste of 35 degrees.
Reserve your place in southern Chile to discover the magnificent volcanoes and experience 12 days of skiing adventure.
We meet at Temuco airport in the afternoon and begin our road trip. We drive about 1.5 hours to our first accommodation at Canon Blanco.
Today we feel the crunch of snow! We drive up to the skiing area of Corralco and ascend the Lonquimay volcano. The rest of the day we can ski in the Corralco skiing area.
We head to the Sierra Nevada, the beautiful peak at the end of the Blanco valley. We will have a full-day tour on this majestic mountain (14,00m). After the tour we drive to La Baita lodge at the foot of the Llaima volcano.
We ascent the stunning Llaima from the east side (17,00m), then return to the Baita lodge.
We leave the Araucarias region and drive south to stay the night close to the Estancia Caulle at the Puyehue volcano, our next goal.
From Estancia Caulle we start trekking to the refuge of the Volcan Puyehue (10,00m). Our ski touring gear and camp equipment go up on horseback. And we stay the night in this refuge.
Today we tour to the crater. After ascending the mellow slopes of Puyehue we ski into the crater of the active
volcano. The slopes to the crater are marvellous and we might chose another line into it after our
ascent back. Then we will ski back to the refuge
and stay the night there. (15,00m)
We descend from the hut to the car and drive to Pucon, the village at the Villarica volcano.
We head to the Villarrica volcano – a classic active volcano. We drive up to the skiing area and ascend from there to the crater. We can possibly see lava inside the crater. We stay the night in Pucon.
Today we go to the king of the region, the 3,700-meter high Lanin volcano. We ascend the volcano from its Chilean side. The goal of the day is to climb about 1,300 meters to reach the high camp at 2,500 meters.
Today we ascend Lanin by skis all the way up to the reel roof of the lake district followed by a 2,600-meter descent back to the car. We return to Pucon and have our farewell dinner there.
We drive back to Temuco and it’s time to say goodbye.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
