Description

Seekers of a challenging via ferrata look no further than the long and complex Pisciadu located in the beautiful Dolomite mountains.

The nearby mountainside contains the awful echoes of the First World War, which was the site of the so-called White War, given its icy, snowy and inhospitable conditions for the soldiers.

Near Bolzano, the capital of the South Tyrol in northern Italy, the via ferrata is completely secured with stairs, steel cables, steps and iron foot-holds that enable us to get beyond the more difficult sections.

It begins with twists and turns on a terrain that slopes. And the final section is characterised with steep and partly exposed terrain. During the more difficult sections, the distance between the supports is short which ensures our safety.

Yet despite the safety mechanisms, the descent towards Val Setu becomes very difficult due to the stubborn snow and ice that remains clinging to the rock. This is why it is recommended to bring spikes and ice-picks.

Along the way, near the beautiful cascades, we may have the option of taking a detour path that heads toward the Franco Cavazza al Pisciadu hut.

Potential participants must already have a good level of skill and experience with via ferratas.

Get in touch now to reserve your place in the incredible Dolomite Mountains in northern Italy to climb the Pisciadu Via Ferrata that presents a good challenge for climbers.

Mountain Guide

I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.

Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.

My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).

Feel free to get in touch with me if you are coming in the Dolomites for skiing (alpine, freeride and ski touring), rock climbing, sport climbing and multi pitch climbing. It will be my pleasure to guide you here and let you discover my secret spots.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
