Description

There is no better place to learn and practice Via Ferrata than in the land where it was born: The Dolomites. Our base camp for this tour will be Cortina d’Ampezzo. Cortina is a quaint mountain town nestled in the heart of the Dolomites in northern Italy. All around, there are Via Ferrata routes for every level, from beginner to advanced.

On this group trip we organize group departures once a week from June to early september to the Brigata degli Alpini via ferrata on Col dei Bos.

This via ferrata follows a ridge of rock that's relatively non-technical, with minimal exposure and verticality, making the climb enjoyable and approachable. Nevertheless, keep it mind it's not suitable for total beginners. From the summit, you'll take in sweeping views of the Dolomites, showcasing peaks like Antelao, Pelmo, Cinque Torri, Nuvolau, Croda da Lago, Civetta, Marmolada, Sella, and Pale di San Martino, among others.

The Brigata degli Alpini ferrata is an intermediate level route, making it a great way to practice and refine techniques for secured climbing routes. The total elevation gain is of 500 metres.

The adventure begins near the Chez Strobel restaurant at Col Galina, located along the Cortina to Passo Falzarego road. The approach is a brief and straightforward 30-minute walk along a well-marked trail. The path leads to a scenic amphitheatre surrounded by towering cliffs, where you can also explore World War I trenches and caves.

Please note that the group tour will be canceled if the minimum number of participants is not reached 5 days prior to the tour.If this happens, participants will have the option to convert their booking to a private session, to postpone to another group dates or to get a refund

Meeting Point: Parking of restaurant Strobel at 9am located along the Cortina to Passo Falzarego road. Please note that the guide cannot wait more than 10 minutes for late arrivals to ensure a quality experience for those on time. The guide will depart with participants who arrive punctually, and unfortunately, latecomers will not be able to join. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

Duration of the activity: 5/6 hours.

Participants who do not have climbing attire should come dressed in comfortable hiking clothes.

FAQs

What kind of shoe/boot is recommended for via ferrata?

Hiking or approach shoes or boots with semi-rigid or fairly stiff sole are the ideal footwear for via ferrata, as you have to be comfortable climbing on metal ladder rungs and walking on rocks. Sneakers are not recommended, as they can be quite slippery.

Can I join a group?

Yes, this is a group tour, for which we have weekly departures from June to mid October. You are welcome to check the open group dates, and send a request for the date that fits you better.

Please note that the group tour will be canceled if the minimum number of participants (3 people) is not reached 5 days prior to the tour. If this happens, participants will have the option to convert their booking to a private session, to postpone to another group dates or to get a refund.

Mountain Guide

I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.

Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.

My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).
