Description

Engage in a challenging 1-day climb on the Tomaselli via ferrata in Passo Falzarego, a high mountain pass at 2,105 meters, which connects the commune of Agordo with Cortina, that lies in the heart of the Dolomite mountains.

Its good quality rock and scenic location makes this via ferrata a beautiful climb. The via ferrata climbs to the top of Punta Sud, one of the summits of the Fanes Group.

The mountain pass of Falzarego, meaning False King in Italian, refers to the local legend of a greedy king who attempted to betray his own people for even more gold. Yet his pact with his enemy backfired and was turned to stone. His petrified face apparently set in stone along the rock face of the Lagazuoi Piccolo mountain.

The legendary landscape combines with the history of one of Europe’s darkest hours. At the beginning of the Tomaselli via ferrata we will encounter the abandoned trails and trenches of the First World War, the scars along the mountainside.

As for the climbing level, this is one of the more difficult via ferratas of the Dolomite mountains given its steep incline and lack of artificial holds. This, combined with its high exposure makes the via ferrata a challenging climb.

Get in touch now to reserve your place on a full day of climbing in Passo Falzarego on the Tomaselli via ferrata. This challenging climb mixes good-quality terrain with a landscape full of history and legend.

FAQs

What kind of shoe/boot is recommended for via ferrata?

Hiking or approach shoes or boots with semi-rigid or fairly stiff sole are the ideal footwear for via ferrata, as you have to be comfortable climbing on metal ladder rungs and walking on rocks. Sneakers are not recommended, as they can be quite slippery.

Can I join a group tour to do a via ferrata?

Yes, I offer weekly group departures for the Alpini via ferrata near Cortina. You can check all the information here: https://www.explore-share.com/trip/1-day-via-ferrata-dolomites-cortina/

Mountain Guide

I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.

Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.

My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).

Feel free to get in touch with me if you are coming in the Dolomites for skiing (alpine, freeride and ski touring), rock climbing, sport climbing and multi pitch climbing. It will be my pleasure to guide you here and let you discover my secret spots.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
