Description

Would you like to learn the necessary skills and techniques to keep you safe during your mountaineering, skiing, snowshoeing and other winter adventures? Then this snow avalanche protection course in the Julian Alps is perfect for you.

Identifying snow, choosing terrain and knowing what to do if you find yourself in a landslide are crucial skills to have when out in the mountains. In this program, we will learn the necessary techniques for you to do just that.  Additionally, you will have the chance to put your skills to practice in different locations such as Kanin-Sella Nevea, Vrsic – Kranjska Gora in the Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps.

Some of the topics we will cover on this snow avalanche protection course are:

  • Avalanches and other winter mountain hazards.

  • Avalanche hazard identification, snow cover testing, hazard assessment and route selection.

  • Protective equipment (avalanche triple, airbag backpacks) – presentation, purpose, and use.

  • Actions to take during an avalanche, company assistance and a search for a landslide in the avalanche.

  • Avalanche beacon – types, ways of finding fallen trees; first aid.

Price does not include: Transportation from your hotel to the meeting place and back to your hotel. It must be paid in cash upon arrival (10 – 60 EUR per person). Also not included in the price: Your ski pass and lunch.

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area.
