Description

Looking for a memorable climbing experience in the Bernese Alps? Join me on the ascent to the east face of Mönch (4,107 m). Since it is easily reached from Jungfraujoch, this is a great option for a one-day alpine tour.

Mönch is at the heart of the famous trilogy formed by mounts Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The terrain is also fairly easy, with a few short steep sections. The route will be the normal route, South East Ridge. I recommend climbers to have at least an Intermediate level climbing experience.

First, to begin the program, I will meet you close by the Jungfraujoch at 8.40 am. After that, we will pursue our goal: the ascent to the east face of Mönch. I will guide you on a hike towards the Mönchsjoch hut, as we make our way along the south shoulder. I promise amazing views north of us. As we continue climbing towards the summit, we will go through gneiss rock and steep firns.

As soon as we reach Mönch summit (4,107 m), the view is awe-inspiring. Thanks to its particular location along the northern edge of the Alps, it gives way to an infinite picture of central Switzerland. Later, we will descend the same route.

A couple of days prior to the beginning of the tour, I will assess the weather conditions and inform you accordingly in case it is necessary to make any changes.

Finally, remember you will need strong mountain boots (to use crampons) and functional clothing. Also, be sure to pack lightly! Among the technical equipment you will need are: crampons, gaiters, harness and HMS carabiner, and an ice axe. I can provide rental equipment in case you need it.

Mountain Guide

I was born in Sörenberg. I owe my love for sports and nature to my father. Ever since I gave my first steps, it was clear that the mountain was my destiny. I received my first harness when I turned 14. What started as a hobby of mine later became my job and professional career – as well as my passion. Climbing for me is pure sentiment. It embodies a deep emotional confrontation with the mountain, life and one self.

I am an all-rounder alpinist, with experience in both ice and rock. When I was 17 years old, I suffered a climbing accident that left me in a wheelchair for some time. Since then, I climbed Eiger mount over 35 times. This mountain became my home and made me a stronger and more confident climber.

Mountaineering has also given me the opportunity of traveling around the globe. I enjoy climbing remote spots, unknown, untouched territory. Freeclimbing is an exceptional practice that I hope to spread as much as possible.

Yet, what is most special to me is sharing these experiences with climbing partners from all over the world. The bond that unites people up in the mountain is extremely special and intense. Fairness and sustainability are two core values to me. In the end, it all comes down to having a fun and joyful climbing experience. Will you join me?

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
