The Rocher du Saint Julien is one of the most spectacular via ferratas in Europe. Located in Buis-les-Baronnies, in the Drôme department in southeastern France, it offers something for everyone.
This beautiful via ferrata has a total length of 1600 meters and it has four different routes, of different level each. If you are a beginner, there is a great itinerary for you. Are you an expert? You will not be disappointed! There are some really challenging itineraries here, only for adrenaline-seekers and experienced climbers.
We will choose the route that best suits your experience level and wishes, and I will make sure you enjoy a safe and unforgettable via ferrata experience. You can see the routes description below:
-Initiation Route: La Pitchouno –****La Petite _(_little) . This fun via ferrata route is perfect for beginners and children and. This 170-meter-long route is not too difficult and you will finish it in about 1 hour.The course includes two bridges, a climbing net, a Nepali bridge, a beam and a monkey bridge. It is a great via ferrata to get you started.
–The Testouriasso (stubborn). Are you ready to challenge yourself? This route is longer than the previous one(460m) and offers a more difficult itinerary. It has two Nepali bridges, a wall beam , a beam and a monkey bridge. It will take us about 1h30 to 2 hours, including a descent of 20 to 30 minutes.
-The Thiousso -The Coriace _(_tough). This 460-meter route is reserved for experienced mountaineers only. As the name suggests, this itinerary will not be a walk in the park: get ready to push your limits! It will take you 2 hours in total. The itinerary includes a Nepali bridge, three monkey bridges, a Nepali bridge and a zip line (optional). As a reward, you will be able to enjoy a breathtaking panorama view in the middle of the Drôme Provençale.
-The Rompo Quieu – The Casse-Cul. This is the most challenging and difficult route in the Rocher du Saint Julien via ferrata, and you will quickly understand why. This really hard via ferrata is only suitable for highly experienced mountaineers, looking to challenge themselves. You will have to cross many different obstacles during 3 hours on this 640-meter-long route. Nepali bridges, beams, a footbridge and some monkey bridges await you here.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much.
