I will take you on yet another adventure in Tierra del Fuego. Join me on this amazing day hike where we’ll take an off-the-beaten-track to Laguna Esmeralda which is a unique alternative to the popular and sometimes really busy trail.

The trip is ideal for those wishing to discover this unexplored place without losing the feeling of being at the end of the world. You will traverse a spectacular landscape, crossing the Fuegian forest, vast peat bogs, and dams built by beavers. The trail leads through large valleys with spectacular views of the Andes.

We’ll begin from the city of Ushuaia and head towards the starting point of the trek. After walking for about 2 hours, you will be able to see the lake located at the foot of the Albino glacier. We’ll have our lunch at this beautiful setting alongside taking in the stunning vistas of the lake and the neighboring peaks.

On the way back we’ll follow another track that borders the river from the lake down to a valley. Here, you will discover the typical vegetation of Patagonia- Bolax Gummifera and mata negra.

If you happen to make this trip in January, you’ll be welcomed with blooming matas. And in March, you will have the chance to discover the flavor of Magellan strawberries.

Regarding difficulty, it varies according to the ground conditions. Since it is an off-road trail, it does involve crossing peatlands and sometimes really muddy areas. But, as long as you are fit, you’ll be fine.
