If you are looking for an exciting and accessible via ferrata, I have the perfect option for you. Join me on the Mala Mojstrovka via ferrata, in the Slovenian Alps, and enjoy a great climbing adventure along your family.
Mala Mojstrovka (2332m) is a rocky peak in the Julian Alps, in the Triglav National Park. It lies straight above the well known Vrsic pass (1611 m).
The Mala Mojstrovka is one of the finest and most scenic via ferratas in the Mojstrovka-Prisank-Triglav region, and still relatively easy, even suitable for children. The round trip will take us from 4 to 6 hours with 700m of altitude gain. We will then descend to the Vrsic Pass, a high mountain pass in the Julian Alps.
The route offers a spectacular panorma over a beautiful landscape and it is well protected. We will enjoy a great traverse, with the possibility to exit and descend along the way. Besides, we have the possibility of visiting interesting remnants of the World War I, like a Russian chapel, or an Austrian winter tunnel.
So what are you waiting for? Send me a request if you want to join me on this great via ferrata! Book your trip and get ready for a great climbing trip.
Slovenia offers many via ferrata possibilities and I also guide other great programmes, including the climbing of famous Mount Triglav. Check them out!
More info
You need to bring a light backpack, clothing (long/short depending on temperatures) and good shoes with profiled soles that protect your ankles. Sunglasses might be a good option and some suntan. For the day a sandwich, energy bars and a drink are also very good options.
Meeting point
What equipment do you provide? What should I have with me?
I’ll provide the technical equipment for the via ferrata:
Please wear shoes that protect your ankles and that have vibram sole. Please do not wear city sneakers!
Based on the weather forecast and the temperature, have with you:
What is the program and the timing?
The hike to the start of the via ferrata takes around 1 hour. The via ferrata takes between 2 and 5 hours, depending on your experience and your fitness level. We’ll then take one hour to reach the top ridge. The way down takes between 2 and 5 hours to climb down.
We usually meet early (5-6am, depending on the weather forecast) in Kranjska Gora and we are back between 1 and 4pm.
Where is the meeting point?
We usually meet in Kranjska Gora (in front of the Ramada Hotel) and drive for 35 min to reach the starting point. We can also plan a different pickup point based on where you stay.
Are you guiding other via ferrata than Mala Mojstrovka?
Another great alternative that I guide besides Mala Mojstrovka is the via ferrata of Mt. Mangrt. You’ll find the details here https://www.explore-share.com/trip/climbing-mangart-via-ferrata-julian-alps-slovenian-italian-routes/
Where do you recommend me to stay the day before?
Kranjska Gora and Mojstrana are good options to stay before this via ferrata together.
How many climbers can join this via ferrata?
It depends on the experience of the participants. I’ll usually take maximum 4 climbers with me. If we need more guides, I’ll ask one or several of my colleagues to join us.

Mountain Guide
I’m an IFMGA Mountain Guide and an Alpine Instructor from Slovenia.
At the back of the house where I grew up, past a slope, a higher hill and some rocks, you could see Mount Triglav rising towards the blue sky.
Mountains were a part of my backyard and I started practicing alpinism when I was a schoolboy. At that time, I enrolled for a sport climbing school and I became an alpine instructor in 1995.
Between 1995 and 1997, I’ve been a member of the Sub-commission on Extreme Alpinism for the Slovene Alpine Society. Some years later, I was Chief of the Commission for Alpinism.
As a member of the alpine team, I went on several expeditions in North and South America, the Himalaya, the Tian Shan and the Kookshall-Too mountain range.
I climbed more than 700 routes in Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and France. Long winter climbs and ridges are always among my favorites.
I made some first winter ascents: on two routes on the north wall of Ribezni, Možnica (700m, V+, 5, UIAA VI/A1) and in Jof di Montasio / Poliški Špik, Grapa (700m, UIAA 4, ascent and complete ridge traverse). Other memorable climbs were a winter traverse of 4000 m peaks in Mont Blanc (4807 m) and the Slovenian Peuterey ridge traverse, among many others.
After 6 years of training, I obtained my IFMGA certification in 2010.
I organize many guided ski touring, rock climbing and ice climbing trips in Slovenia, especially in the surroundings of Mt. Triglav and the whole Soča valley.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
