Splitboarding in Slovenia: Top Outdoor Adventures Awaiting You

In spite of its small size – at just over 20,200 square kilometers, Slovenia is the 45th smallest in the world – Slovenia boasts more than a dozen mountain peaks reaching 2,000 meters in elevation and plenty of other great splitboarding spots.

Away from its highest peak, Mount Triglav, there are plenty of other great splitboarding spots as well. Among the favourites are Škrlatica (2,740 m), Mangart (2,679 m), Jalovec (2,645 m), Razor (2,601 m), Kanjavec (2,568 m), Prisojnik (2,546 m), Rjavina (2,532 m), Prestreljenik (2,499 m), Špik (2,472 m), Tosc (2,275 m) and Krn (2,244 m). Each of these mountain pekas offer plenty of great powder down which to board as well as great views on the way up and from the top.

Sitting on the border between Italy and Slovenia, High Mount Kanin (2,582 m) is another great splitboarding destination. Starting from either the ITalian or Slovenian side, summit the peak before racing back down on the combined board.

Stunning scenery

Slovenia’s Julian Alps are a stunningly scenic mountain range. Boasting numerous snow-capped peaks, thick evergreen forests and plenty of pristine alpine scenery, there is plenty to see here. Heading out on a splitboard is among the best ways to get out and experience the country’s stunning wintertime alpine scenery.

Mighty Mount Triglav

Rising to 2,864 meters in elevation, Mount Triglav is the highest peak in the country. The iconic mountain is emblazoned on the country's coat of arms and is an integral part of Slovenian identity. Summiting the peak on a splitboard before racing back down is the perfect way to experience this quintessential Slovenian mountain.

Head out hut-to-hut

Sometimes you simply need to get out of Dodge for a few days and heading out on a hut-to-hut splitboarding adventure is the perfect way in which to do so. Boasting numerous cozy mountain huts, Triglav National Park is the perfect spot in which to do so. Climb or circumnavigate the mighty peak, all while enjoying the great views and perfect powder.

During the winter, average daily temperatures hover around -10 ºC in the mountains. Snowfall is abundant throughout the winter, especially in the western section of the mountains.

Any trip to Slovenia likely begins with a flight into Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU). From here, the mountainous region of Slovenia can easily be reached in less than an hour by car or in about an hour by bus.
