Zugspitze is Germany’s highest mountain at 2,962 meters, located on the border between with Austria. It is in the Wetterstein Range of the Northern Limestone Alps. Because of its moderate height it is a very popular ascent among mountaineers with many routes to the summit. The varying levels of difficulty include technically easy ascents, though some require the use of crampons to cross the glaciated area at the top. Winter activities like skiing and snowboarding are extremely popular on Zugspitze. Three cables cars make reaching the peak possible for less proactive tourists. Germany’s two largest glaciers are also found on Zugspitze.
