Situated on Germany’s southern border with Austria, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the unofficial capital of mountain climbing in Germany and it is easy to see why.

The climbing the two aforementioned peaks can be done over a weekend by heading from the Alpspitze to the Zugspitze via the arete of Jubiläumsgrat. The climbing is quite challenging, but the views along the way are well-worth the effort of getting them.

The iconic pyramidal peak of the Alpspitze should be at the top of any mountain climber's checklist when they head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The 2,628-meter high peak boasts incredible views of southern Germany and offers plenty of high-quality climbing on pristine limestone. Getting to its summit also takes just a day, but does require intermediate-rock climbing skills.
