Reunion is an overseas island of France that is located in the Indian Ocean, just under 600 miles to the east of Madagascar. The terrain of the island is rugged and dominated by mountains and volcanoes, which are protected as UNESCO World Heritage sites. It also features black sandy beaches from its volcanic activity.
