Backcountry Skiing in Nozawa Onsen: Top Outdoor Adventures Awaiting You

Nozawa Onsen has been gaining in popularity for some time now. It’s a small ski resort but there are some excellent backcountry and side-country areas close by. You’ll get to enjoy vertical drops of up to 1085 meters and hundreds of acres of terrain in the resort. The town itself is also beautiful to explore as it maintains the traditional hot spring village vibe. 

Amazing Powder

Thanks to some clever weather patterns, the snow here is abundant and the powder is deep. It is also not the most popular of the ski resorts so you’ll probably be able to enjoy virgin runs.

This town is known for its Onsens (hot springs). So, when you’re not on the slopes you can relax your muscles here. Plus, this lovely village has maintained its traditional vibe so you can expect excellent local food.

**Good Location **

With the help of the bullet train, you can get here in a few hours from Tokyo. It’s also conveniently placed so that you can continue your ski tour on to places like Myoko, Hakuba and more.

In the winter the temperature can drop to around -7°C but averages sit at around -2°C. The summers are warm and there is considerable rainfall year round.
