Nozawa Onsen has been gaining in popularity for some time now. It’s a small ski resort but there are some excellent backcountry and side-country areas close by. You’ll get to enjoy vertical drops of up to 1085 meters and hundreds of acres of terrain in the resort. The town itself is also beautiful to explore as it maintains the traditional hot spring village vibe.

Thanks to some clever weather patterns, the snow here is abundant and the powder is deep. It is also not the most popular of the ski resorts so you’ll probably be able to enjoy virgin runs.
